UNDERGRADUATE ADMISSIONS at WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY in ST. LOUIS

Looking back: Lessons from my first year

My first year at WashU taught me so much, both academically and otherwise. Here’s some helpful tips I picked up along the way!

‘Summer days, slipping away’: My summer internships!

As I enjoy the last few days of my internships, I can’t believe how fast the time went by. I had a wonderful summer working for the Communications department at the Office of Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer as well as writing for a group of local newspapers. Here’s a bit more about what I worked on this summer!

Countless cover letters: Applying for summer internships

Yes, it is true that you will receive far more nos than yesses. I definitely did. But what people don’t tell you is that the most common response you will receive will be absolute silence. Even after follow up emails, the large majority of places I contacted never responded to me. For a while it felt like I was shouting into the void, and every day I lost a little bit of hope of ever getting that miraculous “yes.” And then I did.

Friends, food, and fun: Memories from my first year

Over a month after finishing my first year at WashU, I still can’t believe it’s over. On one hand, it went by insanely fast. Sometimes I feel like I’m still about to go to college, rather than actually being in it. On the other hand, so much has happened since August of last year. I’ve learned so much about myself and made connections with people whom I can’t imagine not knowing. It’s hard to wrap my head around the fact that so much has changed in just a year.

Extra! Extra!: Writing for Student Life Newspaper

Our newspaper is called Student Life and has been printing since 1878, making it the oldest independent college newspaper west of the Mississippi River! I knew I wanted to get involved with Student Life when I got to campus in August, but I wasn’t sure to what extent. To my surprise, all I needed to do was add myself to the email list, which I did at Student Life’s booth at the Fall Activities Fair.

Fun Dorm Activities: Baking!

When I first visited WashU, my favorite thing about the 40 was, and continues to be, the community I’ve found there. There’s so much to do, whether it’s running to Bear’s Den to grab a meal and staying for hours talking with friends, buying candy at the student owned and run Bear-y Sweet Shop, or having a karaoke night with my floormates in the common room. This semester, one of my favorite features of residential life has been the kitchens in my dorm building.

My Scholarship Programs at WashU!

When I traveled to campus this time last year for Scholars Weekend, I thought that the merit scholarships I would be interviewed for were monetary awards and nothing else. However, as the weekend went by, I quickly realized that the program would be so much more than that. With Scholars Weekend fast approaching, here’s a look into my experience with my scholarships for those who might be about to arrive on campus as scholarship finalists!

My Favorite Places to Hang Out on Campus!

One of my favorite things about WashU is that there are so many locations on campus designed to foster collaboration and interaction. No matter where I am on campus, I’m always close to a great place to sit down with a friend and chat, do homework, or share a meal. Here are some of my favorite places to hang out at WashU!

Explore STL! Ways To Get Off Campus

With so much happening on campus, it can be hard to make time to step out of the WashU bubble. But it’s worth it. Whether you come from a big city or tiny, remote town, St. Louis has everything you could want. Here are some fun ways I’ve gotten off-campus this year.

Getting Involved: Extracurriculars at WashU

Extracurriculars can be the most fun and meaningful part of college life. Here’s a little about what I do to get involved.

Free Food at WashU!

There is nothing WashU students love more than free stuff. Here’s a list of some of my favorite free food opportunities on campus!
