Happy (late) Mardi Gras!
I spent yesterday evening volunteering at a fun event for my internship. In my last post, I mentioned that I am a Development and Fundraising intern at Angel Band Project. Last night, I attended “An Intimate Evening with The Occasionals,” which was this Mardi Gras themed fundraising concert at Joe’s Café with music, food, and drinks.

the feathers at the event were also super fun!
The local band performed, and all money raised will go toward music therapy programs that support survivors of sexual and intimate partner violence. My favorite part from the event was the theme! Everyone dressed up in sparkly gold and purple (and wore fun beads), and there were candles and neon lights everywhere. Plus, the interior design of Joe’s Café itself also matched well with the theme because of its wooden tables, small/intimate atmosphere, and dim lighting.

awesome decor at the venue
Then, the food was also amazing. The food sponsors were Broadway Oyster Bar, Highway 61 Roadhouse, Clementine’s Creamery, and Riverbend Restaurant and Bar. Cajun food is so yummy. 🙂
Lastly, the performances were also super entertaining. I have never heard of The Occasionals prior to the event. I looked up a couple songs on Spotify, but they all seemed super diverse. When I heard them live last night, they gave off this unique vibe that was at the same time welcoming and intimate. Plus, knowing that it is a St. Louis band brings more of a home-y feeling to their songs. I liked the violin addition to the band (although I am *definitely* biased, haha!).

Everyone seemed to have so much fun, and the event was definitely an opportunity for me to explore the St. Louis community more. It was a great way to wrap up the weekend!
