Scholarships 101

What’s our best piece of advice when it comes to scholarships and financial aid? It is crucial to apply for both academic scholarships and need-based aid.

Coming in a close second: Submit your Common Application early, so you have plenty of time to work on academic scholarship applications. Once you submit your Common App, it takes 1-2 business days to get you in our system. Then, you will be able to log into the WashU Pathway and access academic scholarship applications.

Here are a few more things to keep in mind when considering scholarship applications:

  • Scholarships require separate applications, in addition to your application for admission.
  • January 15 is a hard deadline. We must receive applications by 5 p.m. Central Time that day. The application will not be available after that date.
  • You may only apply for school-specific scholarships in the division you selected on your Common Application. We recommend that you choose the field you’re most interested in at this time and apply for the scholarship that most closely aligns. You will retain your scholarship if you change your area of study – and even your school – in the future.
  • In addition to the school-specific scholarships, you may apply for university-wide scholarships. Please look carefully at the requirements for all scholarships, and consider how you can best showcase your talents and strengths.
  • You may use the same transcript and recommendation for scholarship applications that you submitted with your admissions application. Please check the WashU Pathway regularly to make sure all of those materials have been received. We will automatically send your transcript and recommendation to the scholarship committees.
