Hello readers! My name is Reid Petty and I’m a rising junior in the Olin Business School at Washington University in St. Louis. I’m majoring in marketing and minoring in film and media studies. I’m originally from Mendham, New Jersey but now I get to call St. Louis my home! This summer I am an intern for the admissions office, meeting prospective students and acting as a representative of the university. It’s an exciting summer filled with great people in a great city.
Outside of the classroom I’m involved with a number of things. First, I’m the President of the Class of 2017. In this role I program fun and engaging events so my class can have the best time possible throughout their college experience. In addition, I represent the Class of 2017 to the administration of WashU. I also work for the Career Center as a career peer. I review students’ resumes and cover letters and help match them with advisors in the Career Center. We do everything we can to make sure students are finding internships and jobs in their industry of choice. I am also involved with social Greek life as the intramural sports chair of my fraternity.
Obviously WashU has great academics, great student groups, great facilities, great everything, etc… However the reason I came to WashU and applied early decision was because of the community we have here. I think it’s very rare to find a top tier institution that supports collaboration over competition. WashU students and faculty are the kindest, friendliest, most supportive group of people you’ll meet. It’s for this reason that WashU has the best learning environment and why our students are so happy. I couldn’t be happier to be here.
I’m so excited for this coming year at WashU. It’s crazy that it’s going to be my junior year, but I can’t wait to see what the year holds. In the spring I will be heading to Singapore for a semester to study abroad. I’ve always wanted to travel to the Southeast Asian region and I look to travel all around. Cambodia, Vietnam, Bali, etc… they all await. In addition, I look to go into the entertainment industry post-graduation. So this coming year will be filled with informational interviews as I seek to break my way into film or music.
Keep checking back here this whole summer! I’ll be giving y’all updates on my comings and goings as well as what’s happening in STL!
Reid
