2015 Spring WILD

2015 Spring WILD last night was AWESOME.

The performers include Mac Miller, Botneck, and Choo Jackson! Even though I am definitely not the biggest fan of rap music, I have to admit, Mac Miller is pretty talented.

This spring semester, the date and time of WILD was Friday, April 24th at 5:30 p.m. 5:30 was when the opening bands performed. Mac Miller came on around 8:00 p.m.

What is my favorite part about WILD?

So, what is my favorite part about WILD?

It is the timing of the WILD.

This is especially true for the first year undergraduate students (like me) who are just making new friends in a completely new college environment!

In the first semester, WILD was what brought some of my (now) closest friends and I together. We enjoyed picking outfits to wear to WILD, walking there as a group and bonding over our excitement to hear Icona Pop, and eating free food while listening to good music!

In the second semester, WILD is more of a celebratory event. Friday was the last day of classes, so a big concert at the end of the day helped us release stress and celebrate finishing off Freshman Year! WILD was definitely a reward after a stressful last week of classes before the upcoming final exams.

So, what does WILD stand for?

The first WILD happened in 1973. WILD, or “Walk in, Lay Down” is a semiannual concert held in the Brookings Quadrangle.

Side note: Student Life (the university’s newspaper) pointed out that the name “Walk in, Lay Down” is not grammatically correct.

How did WILD first begin?

WILD is named for an old tradition in which students would bring sofas into the quad and lie on them while watching the performances. Since the 2007 Fall WILD, there have been inflatable couches for use. This way, students do not actually have to bring sofas to the quad.

WILD is one of the biggest social events (did I mention it was FREE to undergraduate students and faculty) at Wash U, and the Social Programming Board (SPB) sponsors it.

What is SPB and how does SPB help with WILD?

SPB provides concerts, comedy shows, and special events for the Wash U undergraduate community. SPB brings in nationally known artists along with local bands for WILD. In the past, the headliners for WILD include Wolfgang Gartner, Childish Gambino, Karmin, and Chance the Rapper.

Can non-Wash U students come to WILD?

Yep! Each WUSTL undergraduate student can purchase ONE guest ticket at Edison Box Office in Mallinckrodt. Tickets are $35 each.

Is there food?

YES. There is free food and drinks (water and soda) for all attendees. There is also a 21+ section.
