How I Got My Ticket to an Advanced Screening of Mockingjay

The first installment of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay comes to theaters this Friday, November 21. Hunger Games fans who wish to be among the first to see the  movie have two options: see the midnight premiere or go to an advanced screening.

Midnight screenings are cool. You get to see the movie before everyone else! The downsides are 1) your ticket is more expensive because you have to buy it in advance, and 2) you might have a hard time not falling asleep in class on Friday.

Advanced screenings are nice because you get to see the movie before your midnight premiere friends, who are seeing it before everyone else! Plus, advance screenings are often free. The downside is that free advanced screenings are usually first-come, first-serve, which means you will have to get to the theater early. You can show up maybe 30 minutes to an hour early if it’s not a movie people are excited about, but expect to be at the theater 2-3 hours early if you have any hope of getting a seat at an advanced screening of a hyped-up movie.

Tonight I’m going to an advanced screening of Hunger Games: Mockingjay. “Dera, rethink your choices!” You yell at your screen. “Hawaii was below freezing this week, and you’re thinking of camping outside?”

Luckily, there will be no waiting in the cold. Starting last Thursday,  WashU’s Student Union has been selling tickets to the advanced screening of Mockingjay at the Moolah Theatre. The $2 ticket includes transportation to and from the theater.  As an additional perk, Student Union reserved the entire space, so anyone who bought a ticket has a guaranteed seat. Thanks to Student Union, it looks like the odds of my toes not falling off from frostbite are highly in my favor.
