One of the programs that the First Year Center organized this year for all incoming freshmen was called “Letters to Self”. In the beginning of the year, during orientation, I distributed letters to the floor that I am a WUSA (WU Student Associate) for and asked the students to write about their expectations and goals for the coming semester. We kept the letters for the entirety of the semester and returned them to the same students at the beginning of the second semester. The students were all incredibly surprised at how much they had grown and how their expectations had changed throughout the course of just a single semester. The letters function as a symbol for change, identity, and as a form of motivation for them to take what they learned from the first semester and make the next semester even better!
