Convocation: A group of people assembled for a formal purpose. Or better recognized at WashU as a colorful combination of crazed new students, student leaders, and faculty summoned together within the athletic complex to celebrate the beginning of the new students’ time at WashU. The chancellor addresses the crowd as well as various student and faculty representatives.
After the ceremony, the parents and family members are let out of the athletic center first and told to line the walkway that the students will take from the athletic complex to Brooking’s quad (across campus). Each family member holds a green or red glow stick, lighting the path for the new students. Finally, everyone meets up in Brookings Quad for some tasty Ted Drewes frozen custard and some good music.
